More about Kevin

fdcKevin was born in New Plymouth a long time ago and has two sisters. He went to Francis Douglas College where prominent New Zealanders were educated, including All Blacks Beauden Barrett, Conrad Smith and John Mitchell, along with the Honorary Steven Joyce and TV3’s Paddy Gower.

After working in the rural sector in the Naki in the 1970’s, Kevin moved to Auckland in ‘79, then transferred to Melbourne from ‘84-’89. He started in the insurance industry around 1995 and has worked at Apex since 2001.

Kevin’s partner Marlene is a prominent NZ Lawn Bowler who played for NZ for 16 years, playing in four Commonwealth Games and four World Championships. She was also the first and only New Zealander to win the World Indoor Singles and is an inaugural inductee to the NZ Bowls Hall of fame.

Two step-children; Raelene with her partner Greg in Sydney, and Ryan with his wife Paula in Auckland who have two children, our much loved Riley and Finn.

Kevin took up bowls in the mid 70’s at a little rural club in New Plymouth called ‘Smart Road’ and was an active player and administrator of Bowls in Auckland. He was also Chairman of the Board for Auckland Bowls for 10 years and is a life member.

The ‘voice of bowls’ for Radio Sport for 15 years, Kevin covers all the major events every summer. Later this year, he will be the man on the ground for Radio Sport at the World Bowls Championships in Christchurch where 30+ countries will be competing.

Kevin is also actively involved in the Marist Rugby Club in Auckland and the Morrabbin Rugby Club in Melbourne. Besides his family and work his greatest loves are following Marist and Tukapa rugby and the Canterbury Bulldogs and Warriors in the NRL. He also supports the mighty Hurricanes and the Naki rugby team (of course). He loves to travel and that includes annual trips back to the Naki.
